Who is the Visa for?

Individuals born in eligible countries as defined annually by the U.S. State Department

Spouse or parental chargeability exceptions may apply if you're born in an ineligible country


Eligibility Requirements

  • Education: High school completion (or equivalent) is generally a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education

  • OR Work Experience: At least 2 years of qualifying work within the past 5 years, in an occupation requiring at least 2 years of training or experience (typically Job Zone 4/5 per O*Net)


Visa Duration:

A chance to apply for a U.S. permanent resident card (Green Card). Winning the lottery doesn’t guarantee a visa, but it allows you to proceed with immigration processing steps

Processing Time:

  • Lottery results: Announced about 7 months after entry (e.g., May for the prior October–November entry period)

  • Form DS-260 + document processing: 3–6 months

  • Interview scheduling & visa issuance: Varies by case number and embassy, usually 6–12 months after results
